Callbreak Game Rules
Although Call Break may appear to be a complex card game at first glance, the core rules are relatively simple and can be easily grasped by any player. Here’s a breakdown of the essential Callbreak game rules:
Basic Callbreak Rules
Callbreak, also known as "Lakadi" in some regions, is a trick-taking game that involves four players. It is played using a standard 52-card deck (without jokers). Here are a few basic rules of callbreak:
- Card Ranking: Cards are ranked from high to low in terms of their strength: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2.
- The Trump Suit: The trump suit in Callbreak is always spades. Any card from another suit, regardless of its rank, will be defeated by a spade card. For example, the 5 of Spades beats any Ace of any other suit.
- The Objective: The goal is to win as many tricks as attainable or, at minimum, the number of tricks you bid on before each round.
Gameplay and Scoring
Here’s what you should know about the flow of the game:
- Dealing: To start the game, one player is randomly chosen as the dealer. After each round, the role of the dealer moves clockwise to the next player. The dealer then deals the cards, one by one, to each player, resulting in every player holding 13 cards.
- Bidding (Calling): Before each round starts, players make a bid (also called call). A bid is an estimation of how many tricks a player believes they can win. Players can bid from 1 to 8, the player who wins the bid has to win at least as many tricks as they bid.
- Trick Taking: Each player takes turns playing one card. The player to the right of the dealer leads the first trick. Subsequent players must play a card of the same suit as the lead if possible. If a player doesn't have a card of the leading suit, they can play any card, and the highest card of the leading suit wins the trick.
- Scoring: A player will get a point if the player wins their bid amount of tricks. If not, they will get negative points which is equal to their bid. There is no charge for getting additional tricks. The game continues for five rounds, after which the player with the highest point wins the game.
